The chronicle of the University of Management and Technology (UNIMTECH) has been a remark-able set of milestones. It was founded as a small, mediocre computer training institute, and now it has been transformed into a competitive and successful University.

UNIMTECH is a Sierra Leonean based Information Technology Training Institution devoted to the development and training of computer users and professionals. It was founded on the 16th July 1991 and it was named the Kissy Computer Training Institute (KCTI).
Owing to the emergence of the Information Technology industry as the cornerstone of modern education and a requirement for competence in today’s job-market, the KCTI evolved rapidly into an institution capable of incorporating the new methods of learning. It was transformed into an institution capable of serving the learning needs of our students, communities and society at large. Overall, the provisions have grown by leaps and bounds and diversified considerably, leading to the evolutionary changes of its status and name from KCTI to Institute of Advanced Management and Technology (IAMTECH) and finally to the University of Management and Technology (UNIMTECH). It is gladdening to note that the comprehensive services it offers reflect its current status and nomenclature.

The quest for diversification is endless at UNIMTECH. The rapid progress of the institution has been widely recognized nationally and internationally.

For instance the institution gained recognition from the Ministry of Education as the first computer institute in 1994. In 1996 it was accredited and upgraded to the status of a tertiary educational institution. Within the same academic year, the institute gained a franchise agreement with the Genetic Computer School, Singapore that automatically linked it with the Chico State University (California) and Manchester Metropolitan University (U.K).

Our work ethic is superb. We work round the clock in order to ensure that our qualifications are internationally recognized and that they are of high quality. We provide for both theoretically and practically minded and gifted learners. In this vein, the non-technical graduates are encouraged to refocus their drives and pursuits on careers bent towards technical disciplines while at the same time giving them the best opportunity to achieve their goals. In the practical areas, such as mining engineering, our students are placed on internship in order to maximize their potentials.

Education has a wide ranging rationale. It is also about inculcating in learners ethical and moral values so that society will become peaceful and stable for human habitation. It is only in a free, equal and law abiding society that progress will strive. We can hardly achieve our goals and philosophy, our mission and vision without the collective inputs of our staff.
