Overview and Learning Outcomes

The mining engineering department is designed to meet the growing need for mining engineers, this program offers an advanced study with emphasis in either management-oriented or technically-oriented disciplines for professionals in mining. The program coursework is designed with industry input and provides students with essential technical and management skills required by professionals in the industry today.

Students will:

  • Have an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
  • Have an ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Be able to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
  • Identify mining systems (both underground and surface mines).

Assessment

Throughout your degree, you will be assessed by the mixture of formal examinations, essays, reports, case study analysis, and group work.

Requirements

  • 5 WASSCE, including English, Mathematics and three (3) subjects from the following Cost Accounting, Financial Accounting and Economics in two setting.
