Development Studies

Development studies is a branch of economics that deals with the economic aspect of the development process in low-income countries. It focus is not only on methods of promoting economic development, economic growth and structural change but also on improving the potential for the mass of the population whether through private or public channels.

Learning Outcomes

Students will:

  • Independently formulate and discuss problems within the area.
  • Be acquainted with some current research and research discussions.
  • Independently and critically analyse and discuss central problems in development.
  • Connect the theoretical studies to practical reality and a possible future job market.

Assessment

Throughout your degree, you will be assessed by the mixture of formal examinations, essays, reports, case study analysis, and group work.

Requirements

  • 5 WASSCE passes at grade 6 or equivalent including English Language, Mathematics and Economics
